A bandwidth friendly and browser independent vector-graphic animation technology. As long as different browsers are equipped with the necessary plug-ins, Flash animations will look the same. With Flash, users can draw their own animations or import other vector-based images.
A technology developed by Macromedia, Inc. that enables Web pages to include multimedia objects. To create a shockwave object, you use Macromedia's multimedia authoring tool called Director, and then compress the object with a program called Afterburner. You then insert a reference to the "shocked" file in your Web page. To see a Shockwave object, you need the Shockwave plug-in, a program that integrates seamlessly with your Web browser. The plug-in is freely available from Macromedia's Web site as either a Netscape Navigator plug-in or an ActiveX control. |

In Web programming, PHP is a script language and interpreter that is freely available and used primarily on Linux Web servers. PHP, originally derived from Personal Home Page Tools, now stands for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, which the PHP FAQ describes as a "recursive acronym." PHP is an alternative to Microsoft's Active Server Page (ASP) technology. As with ASP, the PHP script is embedded within a Web page along with its HTML. Before the page is sent to a user that has requested it, the Web server calls PHP to interpret and perform the operations called for in the PHP script. An HTML page that includes a PHP script is typically given a file name suffix of ".php" ".php3," or ".phtml". Like ASP, PHP can be thought of as "dynamic HTML pages," since content will vary based on the results of interpreting the script. All Hyve servers come with a PHP interpreter pre-installed and ready for use. |

| POP3 Email Accounts | top |
POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) is the most recent version of a standard protocol for receiving e-mail. POP3 is a client/server protocol in which e-mail is received and held for you by your Internet server. Periodically, you (or your client e-mail receiver) check your mail-box on the server and download any mail, probably using POP3. This standard protocol is built into most popular e-mail products, such as Eudora and Outlook Express. It's also built into the Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers. POP3 is designed to delete mail on the server as soon as the user has downloaded it. However, some implementations allow users or an administrator to specify that mail be saved for some period of time. POP can be thought of as a "store-and-forward" service. |

Hyve have 3 Priority Levels as follows:
Priority Level 1 The highest support priority. This is used when an issue is deemed CRITICAL. One of our engineers will begin trouble shooting immediately. Any support request received with this level without valid reason will be re-submitted on a lower Priority Level, and the customer will be notified. Please use this level wisely.
Priority Level 2 This is regarded as an extremely urgent issue, which will take preference over all other issues in Priority Level 3. This will typically be actioned within the hour, and must be affecting a live site/mail solution etc. (website must be out of the development phase to qualify).
Priority Level 3 Used for general support issues and should be used for most requests regarding configuration of services/websites etc., as well as development issues such as problems with a database connection string etc. Priority Level 3 is treated as a high priority issue, and will usually be rectified within 24hours. Unless you are experiencing a disruption in service or website please use this Level. |

All of our servers come with high quality hard drives. We carry many spares of all drives supplied, so in the event of a failure, we can simply hot swap the drive out for another.
Your choice of SCSI or IDE. Depending on your budget, we have drives to suit your needs. The SCSI option is best suited to sites requiring full data/drive redundancy, and the use of RAID controllers. |

| UPS | top |
| An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is a device that allows your computer to keep running for at least a short time when the primary power source is lost. It also provides protection from power surges. A UPS contains a battery that "kicks in" when the device senses a loss of power from the primary source. If you are using the computer when the UPS notifies you of the power loss, you have time to save any data you are working on and exit gracefully before the secondary power source (the battery) runs out. When all power runs out, any data in your computer's random access memory (RAM) is erased. When power surges occur, a UPS intercepts the surge so that it doesn't damage your computer. |
