Business background
Brighton-based Broadlight is a DevOps and cloud consultancy, operating at the cutting edge of the digital transformation revolution sweeping the global economy. As a partner to several leading public cloud providers, including Amazon and Microsoft, the Broadlight team helps its customers on their journey to a cloud computing and DevOps-powered future.
The challenge
As a startup, and one of a very few specialist DevOps consultancies in the UK, Broadlight has grown quickly by building teams in both the UK and Europe. Central to their brand, messaging and digital communications strategy is their web presence, as Jordan Carter, Solutions Awareness Manager at Broadlight explains, “We approach our work with excellence at the heart of everything we do, and our public face online – in the form of our website – has to reflect this ethos.”
As Broadlight has grown, demands on their hosting infrastructure have increased, but the company found themselves unable to scale effectively with their previous hosting provider. “Website hosting infrastructure doesn’t scale on its own and we needed to guarantee the performance of our site as we added more content – the last thing we wanted was service issues when customers expect us to excel at digital delivery,” said Carter. “We talked to our provider about our plans and requirements, but it became clear that they weren’t in a position to match our needs and deliver the service levels we were looking for. The search for a new managed hosting provider began at that point”.
The solution
Broadlight are strong believers in the value of networking, and as well as running several popular Meetup Groups in Brighton and London, regularly attend events to broaden their contact lists. While at a Wired Sussex event, they met Hyve and began to explore the scope for working together.
“Meeting at the Wired Sussex event was just the first example of how ourselves and Hyve share a very similar business culture,” explained Carter. “It soon became clear that the businesses could complement each other in a number of ways, but it was Hyve’s technical expertise and commitment to outstanding levels of service that were central to moving to them as our hosting provider.”
The Broadlight website is now live on Hyve’s managed private cloud, and is scaled to give the flexibility and performance levels they were looking for. “We have been incredibly impressed with the Hyve team, have met many of them and have seen for ourselves how their approach to service really makes a big difference to your happiness as a customer,” said Carter.
Broadlight also plans to add Hyve’s managed cloud services to its portfolio as an option alongside its public cloud partners.
The benefits
“Hyve have fantastic experience and the high-performance infrastructure our customers are increasingly looking for,” explains Carter. “Whether it’s working as a private cloud provider, or as part as a hybrid solution that also relies on one of the public cloud giants, Hyve understand the customer mindset and how technology can help their businesses to get better. Broadlight and Hyve have a very clear cultural alignment, and that’s very important to us because it allows us to recommend Hyve’s service portfolio to our customers will full confidence.”
